JAMB Releases 279 Withheld UTME Results After Investigation
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released 279 previously withheld UTME results after reviewing cases linked to suspected examination malpractice. The Board said some candidates were cleared after no evidence of wrongdoing was found, while results of candidates confirmed guilty of malpractice were cancelled. Investigations into other suspicious cases and examination centres are still ongoing, and JAMB warned that more results could be withdrawn if malpractice is established. Candidates with pending results were advised to check their status via SMS using the phone number used during registration.
JAMB Clears 279 Withheld UTME Results After Malpractice Review
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, widely known as Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, has released 279 previously withheld results from the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after completing a review of suspected examination malpractice cases.
The Board explained that the affected results had initially been placed on hold during routine integrity checks carried out after the examination. According to JAMB, some candidates were later cleared after investigators found no evidence linking them to malpractice.
However, the examination body stressed that investigations are still ongoing in several other cases tied to suspicious activities at selected examination centres across the country. It warned that any candidate eventually found guilty of violating examination rules could still have their results withdrawn.
In a statement issued by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Board said the latest release followed a detailed assessment of flagged cases.
“The release follows ongoing investigations into cases of suspected examination malpractice. While some results have been outrightly cancelled where evidence of malpractice was established, others have been released where the Board found no prima facie case against the affected candidates,” the statement noted.

JAMB also revealed that examination centres already under close observation by its monitoring teams would remain under investigation pending the outcome of ongoing checks and reviews.
The Board advised candidates whose results are still pending to confirm their status by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number used during registration.
The latest development reflects JAMB’s continued efforts to strengthen the credibility of the UTME and reduce examination malpractice, which has remained a major concern within Nigeria’s tertiary admission system.
