A student from Ibrahim Babangida University was brutally attacked by her ex-boyfriend, Mohammed Abba Yahaya, who was later arrested by the Niger State Police.

A 25-year-old undergraduate of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai, Hussena, was savagely attacked by her ex-boyfriend, Mohammed Abba Yahaya. The assault took place late at night while Hussena was accompanying a visitor from her home to the highway.

According to Hussena, Mohammed spotted her near the visitor's car and confronted her about the man's identity. Her dismissive response reportedly triggered Mohammed's anger, leading him to strike her forcefully on the forehead and deliver a powerful blow to her eye. The assault left Hussena bleeding profusely and in a state of collapse.

Following the initial attack, Hussena recounted that Mohammed took her iPhone and she subsequently went to his house to report the incident to his parents. However, Mohammed intercepted her on the way and subjected her to another vicious assault, threatening her with further harm.

Hussena was later rushed to IBB Specialist Hospital and subsequently referred to Minna General Hospital for specialized eye care due to the severity of her injuries. Her mother, Hajiya Fatima, expressed deep concern over her daughter's physical and emotional trauma, highlighting the impact on Hussena's academic pursuits and long-term well-being.

In response to the incident, the Niger State Police Command swiftly arrested Mohammed Abba Yahaya, 26, from his residence in Tungan-goro. The Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed Mohammed's arrest, stating that investigations are ongoing and preparations are being made for his prosecution on charges related to the assault.

The assault on Hussena has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for justice from various quarters, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to address gender-based violence in the region.
