In a recent interview with the Public Relations and Marketing Unit, the Department of Medical Laboratory Science at Joseph Ayo Babalola University outlined its mission, vision, and unique features, emphasizing its commitment to fostering academic excellence and professional integrity.The department's mission is to provide comprehensive teaching, hands-on training, and research opportunities, with a focus on stimulating academic exchange both nationally and internationally. Its vision is rooted in collaboration, avoiding professional rivalry, and maintaining integrity in service to humanity.
Students pursuing a degree in Medical Laboratory Science can explore a range of career opportunities in areas such as molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, histopathology and cytopathology, cyto/histo-immunochemistry, blood banking, forensic pathology, and preventive medical research. Graduates from the program are well-equipped to contribute to cutting-edge medical advancements.
Prospective students are encouraged to apply, knowing they will receive instruction from a highly qualified team of professors and experienced clinical instructors. The program also boasts state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and clinical postings at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex in Ile-Ife. The department has full accreditation from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
Upon completing the program, graduates are inducted into the MLSCN, and after a mandatory one-year internship at an accredited university teaching hospital, they are eligible for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Graduates are then free to practice anywhere in the world or pursue postgraduate studies.
