In a significant move aimed at enhancing the educational infrastructure of Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano (YUMSUK), the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the reallocation of the Kano State Library (Murtala Muhammad Library) to the university.

The approval is seen as part of the Governor's broader efforts to boost higher education in the state by providing improved access to resources for students and researchers.

On 7th October 2024, the management of YUMSUK, led by its Vice Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, visited the library for an inspection. The university's team was joined by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, who led a delegation from the ministry. Together, the two teams conducted a comprehensive tour of the library, moving through its expansive facilities from the ground floor to the fourth floor.

The inspection involved a thorough assessment of the library’s resources, potential, and infrastructure. Moving from hall to hall and office to office, the teams observed the vast potential of the building to serve as a hub of knowledge for the university community. The Vice Chancellor and the Commissioner commended the state government’s decision, expressing optimism that the library would be more effectively utilized under the university’s administration.
