UDUS Students Cry Out Over Prolonged Electricity Blackout in Private Hostel

Students residing in Benji Hostel, a private accommodation facility near Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), are facing severe hardship due to a prolonged electricity blackout.
The hostel, which houses a large number of students, has been without stable power supply for weeks, causing disruptions to academic activities and daily life. Students rely on electricity for essential tasks such as powering electronic gadgets, ironing clothes, and accessing water.
The absence of electricity has resulted in a shortage of water, as pumps cannot operate without power. Students are forced to travel long distances to fetch water, with some trekking 10-15 minutes to nearby hostels.
The situation has also led to an increase in prices of essential commodities, such as soft drinks, Kunu, Zobo, and pure water, which has risen from N20 to N50 per sachet.
Students have lodged complaints, but nothing has been done to restore electricity. Comrade Umar, a concerned student and resident of Benji Hostel, expressed his frustration, stating that the absence of light has caused numerous problems, including inconvenience, risk, and disruption to academic activities.
The students are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene and restore electricity to the hostel, emphasizing the importance of access to electricity for their academic pursuits and daily lives.
