KHAIRUN University Library Partners with Ogiba Comprehensive School to Boost Grassroots Literacy
University Library, Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano (KHAIRUN) Hosts Ogiba Comprehensive School Students in Grassroots Readership Promotion Drive
As part of its commitment to promoting readership from the grassroots, the University Library, Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano, yesterday, 28th January, 2026 hosted students of Ogiba Comprehensive School, Kano. The students were accompanied by their School Librarian, Malam Hassan Maitsidau, and his assistant, Malam Aliyu.
The visiting students were warmly received by the University Librarian, Malam Nazir Muhammad, in the company of the Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator of KHAIRUN Book Club, Malama Zainab Sani Bello and Malama Hadiza Aliyu respectively. Also present were Abubakar Sadeeq Isa who anchored the session, Malama Bilkisu Abubakar Sa'ad, and Malam Mubarak Babalola, a Corps member serving at the University Library.
The event featured the presence of the author of Amigo Sister’s, Malam Khalid Imam, who shared important insights about the book read by the students. The book was reviewed during the session, with the author explaining that it centers on themes of friendship and sacrifice, among others.
In his remarks, the University Librarian expressed appreciation for such educational visits, describing them as vital to nurturing a strong reading culture among young learners. He encouraged the students to imbibe the habit of regular reading and assured them of the Library’s readiness to partner with Ogiba Comprehensive School in initiatives aimed at promoting readership.
The students were also taken on a guided tour of the various sections of the University Library, where they were briefed on the functions of each section and how they contribute to achieving the vision and mission of the University Library and, by extension, the overall goals of the University.
The visit ended on a positive note, reinforcing the University Library’s role as a hub for knowledge sharing, community engagement, and the promotion of reading culture among students at all levels.
