Lagos NLC Chairperson Advocates for Legitimacy of Unionism at UNILAG NASU Annual Lecture

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) held its 2025 Annual Lecture on Tuesday, December 16, at the Rahman Adisa Bello Auditorium. 

The keynote lecture, titled “The Legitimacy of Unionism in the Public Sector: Challenges and the Way Forward,” was delivered by Chief (Mrs.) Funmi Agnes Sessi, Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Lagos State Chapter.

During her address, Chief Sessi emphasized that organized labor is a vital pillar of public-sector governance and a necessary advocate for social and economic justice. She highlighted several key points regarding the role of modern unionism.

The commemorative event also featured a health seminar and free medical screenings for participants, reflecting NASU's focus on the holistic well-being of its members. 

The lecture was attended by prominent figures in the labor community and university management, including representatives from the College of Medicine and national NASU leadership, further cementing the significance of the union's role in the university's administrative efficacy.
