Lagos State University VC Warns Against Gender-Based Violence

Prof Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), has issued a stern warning against any form of gender-based violence towards female students or staff members. This marks yet another instance of the VC’s firm stance against such misconduct.

During her opening remarks at the anti-GBV summit of the 2023 UNiTE Campaign, held at the expansive Buba Marwa Hall, Prof Tunji-Bello reiterated her administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards gender-based violence. She emphasized that anyone found guilty, regardless of their social status, would face the full weight of the law.

Despite her reputation as a compassionate figure, the VC expressed a harsh stance against anyone contemplating any form of violence against women. She stated, “Sex-for-mark is a no-no thing here; definitely not under our administration. So I want to say it again that if you see something, say something and we shall do something.”

In a conversation with Daily Independent on the sidelines of the summit, Mr Lansana Wonneh, the Deputy Country Representative of the UN Women Entity For Gender Equality And Empowerment of Women, made a bold statement, declaring that corruption is generally male-driven on a global scale.
