NANS President Urges Government to Boost Education Budget for 2024
NANS President Emonefe Lucky urges Federal Government to increase 2024 education budget and involve students in its execution
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Federal Government to increase the education budget and involve students in the execution of the 2024 education budget proposal. The appeal was made by NANS National President, Emonefe Lucky, during the ongoing 2024 Budget and Appropriation Process at the Citizens’ Town hall meeting in Abuja.
Mr. Lucky emphasized the need for a budget increase for education in the 2024 budget proposal. He revealed that the Federal Government has allocated about N2.18 trillion for education in the 2024 budget proposal, which represents 7.9 per cent of the total N27.5 trillion budget proposal. The NANS president expressed concern over the current state of the country’s education sector, citing numerous factors that have hindered its development. He called for urgent intervention to prevent the sector from losing its standard completely.
Mr. Lucky also reiterated the need for the leadership of the National Assembly to include students in the execution of the education budget. This, he believes, will enable students to monitor the budget’s impact on various institutions and on the lives and welfare of Nigerian students.

He warned relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) involved in education matters that it would not be business as usual. He advised them to prepare for the task ahead and work positively for the growth of Nigeria’s education sector.

In conclusion, Mr. Lucky assured the MDAs of the support they would receive from the leadership of the Nigerian Students. He urged them to reciprocate by giving education a new face and raising its standard across the board.
