LASU Honours Former Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Bursar at Colourful Send-Off Ceremony

Lagos State University (LASU) has honoured its immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adenike Omotunde Boyo, immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Olufunso Abayomi Omobitan, and immediate past University Bursar, Mr. Sa'id Babatunde Olayinka, FCA, at a colourful send-off ceremony in recognition of their outstanding service to the institution.

Lagos State University (LASU) has honoured its immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adenike Omotunde Boyo, immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Olufunso Abayomi Omobitan, and immediate past University Bursar, Mr. Sa'id Babatunde Olayinka, FCA, at a colourful send-off ceremony in recognition of their outstanding service to the institution.

The ceremony, held on July 8, 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Room, brought together principal officers, deans, directors, heads of departments, members of the University community, family members, friends, and well-wishers to celebrate the trio's contributions to the University's growth and development.

Welcoming guests, the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, commended the former members of the management team for their loyalty, dedication, and selfless service, describing the event as a heartfelt expression of appreciation for their immense contributions.

She noted that the remarkable achievements recorded during her administration were the product of teamwork and a shared vision.

"The remarkable milestones we have recorded as an administration were made possible because we worked together as one united team. As the Yoruba would say, 'Ẹni kan kì í jẹ́ àwàdẹ' (no one accomplishes great things alone). Today, we celebrate colleagues whose dedication, wisdom and unwavering support helped shape the success story of Lagos State University," she said.

The Vice-Chancellor described Professor Boyo as a dependable confidante whose loyalty and commitment remained steadfast throughout her tenure.

She also praised Professor Omobitan for his intellectual depth, dedication, and unwavering support, while commending Mr. Olayinka for his professionalism, integrity, and invaluable contributions to strengthening the University's financial administration.

Several members of the University's management and senior officers paid glowing tributes to the celebrants, acknowledging their lasting impact on LASU's development.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, said many of the administration's achievements were made possible through the commitment, sacrifice, and collaborative spirit of the honourees.

Similarly, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Toyin Enikuomehin, described the celebration as a fitting tribute to three distinguished administrators whose legacies would continue to inspire future generations.

He lauded Professor Boyo's sincerity, openness, exemplary leadership, and conflict-resolution skills, affectionately describing her as "Mama Strategist." He also commended Professor Omobitan's academic and administrative excellence and praised Mr. Olayinka's contributions to the University's financial management.

Other dignitaries who paid tribute included the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Professor Ibrahim Olateju; Director of LASUSBAS, Professor Yunus Dauda; former Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Moses Akanbi; Director of Internal Audit, Mrs. Margaret Ogunkoya; Director of the Centre for General Nigerian Studies, Professor M. O. B. Mohammed; and the Senior Deputy Registrar, Postgraduate School, Mr. Samuel Otesanya.

In her response, Professor Boyo expressed gratitude to God for granting her the opportunity to complete two successful terms as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

She thanked the Vice-Chancellor for her confidence, friendship, and unwavering support, describing her as "a friend, an inspiring leader and an exceptional boss."

Professor Boyo also appreciated members of the University community for their cooperation and support, noting that she was retiring fulfilled, accomplished, and in good health.

Professor Omobitan, in his remarks, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for her visionary leadership and expressed appreciation to members of the University's management for their support throughout his tenure.

The immediate past Bursar, Mr. Olayinka, reflected on the responsibilities of his office, stating that every financial decision taken during his tenure was guided by the best interests of the University.

He thanked the Vice-Chancellor for her unwavering support and prayed for the successful completion of her tenure in September 2026.

The ceremony featured a dance session involving the Vice-Chancellor, members of the management team, and the celebrants, followed by the cutting of a commemorative cake and the presentation of gifts in recognition of their meritorious service.

The event concluded with an appreciation speech by the University Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu, who commended the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for organising a befitting celebration in honour of three distinguished administrators whose contributions greatly enriched Lagos State University.
