Taraba State University (TASU), Jalingo, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence five specialised undergraduate programmes in Communication and Media Studies from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval follows the successful unbundling of the university's Mass Communication programme in line with the NUC's nationwide reform aimed at producing graduates with specialised skills for the evolving media and communication industry.

The newly approved programmes are B.Sc. Advertising, B.Sc. Broadcasting, B.Sc. Journalism and Media Studies, B.Sc. Public Relations, while the already accredited B.Sc. Mass Communication programme will continue to run alongside them under the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.

The approval was secured under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, following a successful NUC resource verification exercise.

Reacting to the development, the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Dr. Destiny Oberiri Apuke, described the approval as a major milestone in the university's academic expansion.

He said the approval reflected the Vice-Chancellor's commitment to repositioning Taraba State University in line with global best practices, adding that the faculty was fully prepared to deliver quality education through the newly established programmes.

Also speaking, the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Livinus Jesse Ayih, described the approval as the fulfilment of a long-standing aspiration for the faculty.

He commended the Vice-Chancellor for prioritising academic excellence, infrastructure development and programme expansion since assuming office in 2022, noting that the approval would significantly strengthen media education at the university.
