The Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), in collaboration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), on Thursday, 16 April 2026, officially inducted 929 new teachers into the teaching profession during its 2025 Second Diet Induction Ceremony.

The ceremony, held simultaneously at the Oluremi Tinubu Hall, Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus and the Epe Campus, marked a significant step in professional teacher certification in Nigeria. The inductees comprised graduates across various levels, including PhD, Master’s, Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PDE), PGDE, Bachelor’s Degree, and NCE qualifications, now formally licensed to practice teaching both nationally and internationally.
The event attracted key stakeholders in the education sector, alongside university management, academic staff, parents, and members of the public.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of LASUED, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, described the induction as a defining transition from academic training to professional responsibility. She emphasized that the event reflects the university’s broader mission of producing educators who are not only academically sound but also ethically and professionally grounded.
She reaffirmed the importance of the ongoing partnership between LASUED and TRCN in maintaining standards within the teaching profession.
“While the university prepares educators academically, TRCN ensures that only qualified and competent individuals are licensed to practice. This partnership is essential in maintaining standards in the sector,” she said.

Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye also urged the newly inducted teachers to embrace continuous learning and uphold high standards of professionalism, integrity, and adaptability in a rapidly evolving educational environment. She noted that modern educators are expected to function beyond traditional classroom instruction, serving as mentors, innovators, and digital facilitators.
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of TRCN, Dr. Aderonke Soyombo, represented by Dr. Mary Aba, also addressed the gathering, describing teaching as a foundational profession that directly shapes national development across all sectors.
She encouraged the inductees to see themselves as nation-builders and role models responsible for influencing future generations positively.
The TRCN also highlighted ongoing regulatory reforms aimed at strengthening the teaching profession, including enhanced Professional Qualifying Examinations (PQE), expanded digital registration systems, and stricter enforcement mechanisms to ensure only qualified individuals are certified to teach.
In her remarks, the Director of the Directorate of Teaching Practice at LASUED, Dr. Mrs. Akinkotu Foluke Abimbola, congratulated the inductees and described the ceremony as a major milestone in their transition from trainees to fully recognized professionals.

The induction concluded with a strong call for excellence, accountability, and commitment to educational development as the new teachers formally entered the profession.
