McPherson University Appoints Professor Kenneth Nwoko as Deputy Vice-Chancellor
The Governing Council of McPherson University has approved the appointment of Professor Kenneth Chukwuemeka Nwoko as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the institution, in recognition of his academic excellence, administrative experience, and longstanding service to the university.

Professor Nwoko is a Professor of History and International Relations in the Department of History and International Studies at McPherson University. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in History, followed by both his Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in History and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos. His academic interests span Peace and Conflict Studies, African Cultural History, International Relations, as well as Ethnic and Gender Studies.
A prolific scholar with over sixty publications in reputable local and international journals and edited volumes, Professor Nwoko began his academic career as a Teaching Assistant and Graduate Fellow at the University of Lagos before moving to Redeemer’s University, where he served between 2009 and 2012.

He joined McPherson University in 2012 as a Senior Lecturer and pioneer Acting Head of the Department of History and Diplomatic Studies, a role he held until 2018. Through steady progression and scholarly distinction, he rose to become the first Professor in the Department of History and International Studies. He later served as Dean of the College of Humanities and subsequently as the first substantive Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies from 2022 to 2024.
Beyond teaching and administration, Professor Nwoko has benefited from several international fellowships and research grants, including support from the Social Science Research Council, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, the British Library, and Université Grenoble Alpes. He has also contributed to academic quality assurance in Nigeria, serving on National Universities Commission accreditation panels and as an external examiner to multiple universities.
The appointment reflects the university’s confidence in his leadership capacity and sustained contributions to institutional growth, research advancement, and academic development.
