Meet Prof. Iya Abubakar, the first Northern Nigerian to earn Ph.D. in mathematics

African Mathematics Genius from Adamawa State..... A First Class graduate of Mathematics at the University of Ibadan in 1957, is also the first Northern Nigerian to earn a Ph.D. in any field when he earned it at the University of Cambridge at the age of 28.

 

At 33, he became the only Nigerian appointed as a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

At 37, Abubakar became the Head of the Department, of Mathematics/Computer Science of the University.
