Military Rescues 74 NYSC Members from Possible Abduction in Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) operating under North East Operation Hadin Kai have successfully rescued 74 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from a potential abduction by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Borno State.

The rescue operation took place on Tuesday at approximately 9:05 p.m. along the Buratai-Kamuya road, where the corps members' vehicles had broken down in a area known for kidnapping activities.

According to reports, a military patrol team was dispatched to the scene after a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system detected suspicious movement involving three buses at the location. Upon arrival, the troops found 36 male and 38 female NYSC members stranded and vulnerable to abduction. The rescued individuals are currently being sheltered at the Buratai military base, where arrangements are being made for their safe onward journey.

It was revealed that the corps members had initially been escorted from Maiduguri to Damaturu by troops of 7 Division Garrison. However, they proceeded to Hawul Local Government Area without informing Sector 2 Headquarters or securing an armed escort, which led to the incident.
