Minister Directs NYSC to Deploy Doctors to Prisons, Emergency Services
The interior minister has directed NYSC to deploy doctors to prisons and emergency services to improve healthcare access.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has instructed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to assign medical doctors to Nigeria's correctional facilities and emergency services. This move aims to enhance healthcare in custodial centers and provide essential medical support in emergency situations across the nation.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo announced this initiative during a media briefing on the Ministry's achievements for 2024. He confirmed that the proposal has received presidential approval, allowing the Nigeria Correctional Service to start accepting NYSC medical corps members.
He also highlighted several key accomplishments, including zero jailbreaks in 2024, improved border security, and a revenue generation of ₦6 billion. He emphasized the importance of protecting national borders to safeguard Nigeria's security interests. Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to further reforms, stakeholder engagement, and innovation in public service delivery. He assured Nigerians that additional digital solutions and security measures would be implemented to improve governance and enhance national security.
"As we move into 2025, we remain committed to driving national development through strategic reforms, innovation, and partnerships," he stated.
