Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Conducts Official Working Visit to Ahmadu Bello University
The Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, is on an official working visit to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
The minister, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, visited the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) of the university as part of the engagement.
Prior to his visit to NAPRI in Shika, the minister paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Professor Adamu Ahmed, at the university’s Senate Building. Maiha, a distinguished alumnus of the institution, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception accorded him.
He also thanked the university management for the presence of the principal officers who assembled to receive him, noting that he remains proud to be associated with Ahmadu Bello University, which he described as one of the foremost universities in Nigeria.
According to the minister, ABU remains home to him, assuring the university of continued support towards its growth and development.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, expressed delight at hosting the minister and welcomed the Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Livestock Matters, Professor Attahiru Jega, who accompanied him on the visit.
Professor Ahmed noted that the university’s leadership and relevant stakeholders were fully represented at the meeting, reaffirming the institution’s readiness to support the transformation of NAPRI in line with the mandate of the Ministry of Livestock Development.
Members of the minister’s delegation included the Director, Ranch and Pastoral Resources Development Department, Mr Ayuba Shekamang; Director, Animal Health and Reproductive Services, Dr Alao Mitchell; National Project Coordinator of LPRESS, Dr Sanusi Abubakar; and the Special Assistant to the Minister, Dr Gidado Muhammed, among others.
