Rather than accept defeat, Bature revisited his neglected second-choice option: Business Administration and Management. He enrolled in the National Diploma (ND) program at Kaduna Polytechnic, where he encountered an inspiring lecturer.

Christopher Bature, a Nigerian Economist, has attributed his successful university admission to his decision to select a second-choice course during his Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) UTME registration, after initially being rejected by his first-choice university. 

During the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Bature faced disappointment when his first-choice university rejected him. Undeterred, he turned to his second-choice course, which ultimately paved the way for his academic success.

In a LinkedIn post,Bature recounted his experience,revealing that he had solely focused on securing an admission into the Accountancy department of the University of Jos,neglecting his second-choice course and institution entirely.However,his initial JAMB score of 167 dashed his hopes of studying Accountancy.

“My JAMB scores dashed my Accountancy dreams.I scored 167.‘Very poor and far less than the last score,’ I thought to myself.Not wanting to stay home for another year,I quickly revisited my neglected second-choice course and institution,” he wrote.

Rather than accept defeat, Bature revisited his neglected second-choice option: Business Administration and Management. He enrolled in the National Diploma (ND) program at Kaduna Polytechnic, where he encountered an inspiring lecturer. Her passion for Economics ignited Bature’s curiosity, leading him to spend more time studying the subject than any other.

“Economics became more than a subject; it became a mission,” Bature reflected. Determined to understand the forces shaping global economies, he retook the JAMB exam with a clear vision. His perseverance paid off, and he graduated as an Economics major.
