NANS Clears NSUK VC of Election Tampering Allegations, Points to Issues in Two Faculties
Comrade Imrana Yusuf, NANS Secretary in Nasarawa State, confirmed on Thursday that the elections were compromised only in the faculties of Arts and Education.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has exonerated Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), from allegations of tampering with the recent Students Union Government (SUG) elections. This follows reports of irregularities during the elections held on Wednesday.
Comrade Imrana Yusuf, NANS Secretary in Nasarawa State, confirmed on Thursday that the elections were compromised only in the faculties of Arts and Education. Despite these issues, Yusuf praised the Vice-Chancellor for providing a level playing field aimed at ensuring a free and credible election.
Yusuf also commented on the unrest at the university’s main campus, which led to security forces firing tear gas to disperse protesting students. He attributed the unrest to external influences but emphasized that any committee findings that do not favor Nigerian students would be contested.
In response to the disruption, NSUK’s management has suspended the SUG elections to allow tensions to subside and prevent further disorder. The Vice-Chancellor announced this suspension during a meeting with the election candidates in the Senate Chamber.
