The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) hosted an Inter-Secondary Schools Quiz Competition on Solid Waste Management and Flood Preparedness today in Kano. The event was designed to promote awareness and encourage responsible waste management practices among students.

Dr. Nuraddeen Abdullahi, the Coordinator of NEMA's Kano Territorial Office, highlighted the importance of the initiative. He emphasized that the competition aimed to engage students in critical discussions about sustainable waste management and flood preparedness, which are vital in safeguarding the environment and public health.

“This initiative is not only about testing knowledge but also about cultivating a culture of environmental responsibility among the next generation of leaders,” said Abdullahi.

The competition saw Khalid bn Walid Secondary School emerge as the winner, with Government Girls College (GGC) Dala and Government Girls Secretary School (GGSS) Kuka Bulukiya taking second and third place, respectively. Trophies were awarded to the winners, and all participating schools received consolation prizes, including waste management tools such as waste bins, plastic parkers, brooms, and rakes.

Hajiya Ramatu Tofa, Principal of GGC Dala, praised NEMA for the initiative, noting its positive impact on students' understanding and practices regarding waste management.

The event featured participation from several schools, including Al-Furqan International Science Secondary School, GGASS Tudun Bojuwa, and others.
