Colette Offiong Bassey has achieved a remarkable milestone at the University of Calabar, Nigeria, by becoming the first-ever first-class graduate from the Department of Linguistics and Communications Studies in its 44-year history.
Bassey, who was heavily pregnant during her final year examinations, recounted taking an exam on a Wednesday and giving birth to a baby boy the following Saturday.
The university confirmed her historic achievement in a statement, noting, "Bassey Colette Offiong emerged as the only first-class student from Linguistics and Nigerian Languages in the 2018/2019 session, and the first ever in the history of the department dated back to 1977."
Expressing her gratitude, Bassey credited God and her husband for their unwavering support, stating on Instagram, "To God be the glory. I remember finishing exams on a certain Wednesday and giving birth that Saturday. It was one hell of a ride but it ended in praise."
