Evelyn Uba, a Nigerian mother of four, has realized her lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer after a decade-long journey filled with challenges. Despite financial struggles, family obligations, and numerous attempts, she finally passed the California bar exam in January 2021.

Evelyn Uba left Nigeria at 18 to pursue higher education in the United States, but her plans were disrupted when her father suffered a stroke shortly after her arrival. She worked various jobs to support her family, putting her education on hold.

Two decades later, as a married mother of four, Uba enrolled at California Southern Law School in 2005. After graduating in 2011, she began her journey to become a lawyer by taking the notoriously difficult bar exam.

Over the course of ten years, Uba attempted the bar exam more than ten times while juggling her full-time job as a welfare professional and her family responsibilities. Her children provided motivation, with her daughter telling her not to give up, reminding her that time lost could never be regained.

In January 2021, Uba received the long-awaited news that she had passed the bar exam, a moment she described as a "huge weight lifted." Her daughter captured her emotional reaction in a viral video.

Uba is grateful for the support of her family, friends, and supporters who encouraged her. She aspires to use her legal license to help low-income individuals and marginalized communities, particularly in criminal defense and social justice.
