NSUK 1st Female VC Takes Over The Mantle Of Leadership, Promises To Make The University More Competitive

The First Female Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman has pledged to drive the institution into taking a leading role in the league of regional, national and continental Universities with vocational entrepreneurial and functional education.

Professor Sa'adatu made the commitment during the handing and taking over ceremony which took place at the Senate Chamber of the University on Monday 22nd April 2024.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the ultimate goal of her mission is to empower students who will be trained, informed and be passionate agents of change for emancipation of humanity, society and restoration of dignity of man through leadership that will relentlessly pursue institutional effectiveness and operate performance based and metric driven University management and governance systems.

Professor Sa'adatu stated that during her tenure she will endeavor to expand the scope of academic pursuits in the University by introducing new programs and courses, this she said is with a view for the University to compete with other higher institutions of learning.

On security, the Vice-Chancellor said she intends to pursue an improved collaboration with security agencies, leadership of host communities and other relevant stakeholders towards providing adequate security for lives and properties on campus and environs, noting that she will play the role of a good host to all staff and students of the University.

Professor Sa'adatu further hinted that measures will be put in place towards enhancing discipline, modest dressing amongst students and strict adherence to the rule of law and the ethics of the University, this, according to her is to ensure that students of the University are always seen as good ambassadors of the University in all places.

The Vice-Chancellor who expressed her sincere gratitude to Almighty Allah for the privilege to serve in the capacity of a Vice-Chancellor said she has always regarded Nasarawa State University, Keffi, as her baby considering the fact that she has been a part of the birth of the University, its nurturing and development for the past 22 years.

Earlier, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Sallau Modibbo who was appointed after the expiration of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed pledged the commitment and loyalty of the other principal officers to the new Vice-Chancellor to enable her take NSUK to greater heights.

In his remarks, Registrar and Secretary of University Governing Council, Dr. Bala Isyaka Ahmed II described the process that led to the selection of the Vice-Chancellor as technical, credible and transparent, noting that 26 applicants responded to the advertorial, 17 applicants were shortlisted and Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman came tops of the interview that took place on the 3rd and 4th April 2024.

The highpoint of the handing over ceremony was the presentation of handing and taking over notes from the Acting Vice-Chancellor to the new Vice-Chancellor.
