NSUK Alumni Condemn Mockery of PhD Graduates, Urge Protection of Institutional Reputation

The Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) Alumni Association has condemned the wave of criticism and mockery directed at the institution’s recent cohort of PhD graduates, describing it as damaging to the university’s reputation and counterproductive to collective progress.

In a statement issued on April 16, 2026, the association’s leadership, led by its President, Barr. Nuhu J. Egya, expressed concern over reactions that followed the unveiling of a record number of doctoral graduates during the university’s 8th Combined Convocation and 25th Anniversary celebrations.

The association described the milestone as a significant achievement for the institution and Nasarawa State, noting that the scale of doctoral output reflects NSUK’s growing profile as a centre for postgraduate training and academic excellence.

It, however, criticised some alumni for participating in what it termed the public disparagement of the university, warning that such actions undermine the credibility of both the institution and its graduates.

The association cautioned members against engaging in negative commentary across public and social media platforms, urging them to exercise restraint and uphold the values of loyalty and responsibility to their alma mater.

It stressed that earning a doctoral degree requires years of rigorous academic work, research, and personal sacrifice, adding that such achievements should be recognised rather than trivialised.

The statement further warned that sustained negative narratives could erode the institution’s reputation and diminish the value of its academic output.

Reaffirming its support for the university and its graduates, the association urged alumni to act as ambassadors of NSUK, promoting its achievements and contributing positively to its growth and public perception.

The association emphasised that protecting the institution’s image is a shared responsibility, calling on members to prioritise unity and constructive engagement in advancing the university’s standing nationally and internationally.
