NSUK Hosts 15th Annual Ramadan Symposium on Accountability and Compassion

The Muslim Ummah of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), on Sunday 22nd February, 2026 held its 15th Annual Ramadan Symposium, bringing together academic giants, and religious leaders to deliberate on the moral imperatives of governance.

The event, themed “Leadership as a Sacred Trust (Amanah): Compassion, Accountability, and the Welfare of the People,” served as a spiritual and intellectual call to action for leaders at all levels of society.

The Guest Speaker, Sheikh (Prof.) Khalid Aliyu Abubakar of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Kaduna State University (KASU), delivered a stirring lecture presentation that redefined leadership through the lens of Amanah (Sacred Trust). He cautioned that leadership should never be a tool for self-preservation but is a "weighty trust" for which every individual—from political office holders to heads of households—would be held accountable by the Creator.

“Leaders are like a spring of water, which shall be pure for the well-being of those under their care,” Sheikh Aliyu remarked, emphasizing that the purity of a leader’s heart, grounded in God-consciousness and truth, determines the health of the society.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, who served as Chief Host, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Maikano Mohammed Ari. In her remarks, noted that the symposium’s theme was timely and essential for fostering a more compassionate and just society.

Further reinforcing this, Chairman of symposium Distinguished Senator Abdullahi Adamu, CON, Turakin Keffi, represented by a former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Akaro Mainoma, reminded the audience that true leadership is fundamentally an "act of worship" requiring humility, moral integrity, and the preservation of justice.

Speakers emphasized the need for leaders to "hear the cries of society" and act with empathy in times of difficulty. The symposium expanded the definition of leadership to include union executives, religious heads, and individuals governing their personal affairs.

Prof. Musa Inuwa Fodio and Prof. Hauwa'u Mainoma in their goodwill messages, highlighted that social and economic stability are direct results of leaders dispensing justice and entrusting responsibility to deserving individuals.
