NSUK VC Charges Contractors On Timely and Quality Completion Of Projects

The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman has charged contractors handling projects in the University on completion of projects within the stipulated period of time to avoid inflationary trends and unnecessary delays.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the charge when she handed over a project site to Messrs Artigrat Ltd, for the construction of ASR-Lecture Theatre, a donor project by "ASR Africa Initiative" under the Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative for Tertiary Education Grant Scheme on Thursday 9th May 2024, at the main campus of the University.

Professor Sa'adatu advised contractors to always ensure that they procure building materials in good time to avoid the effects of inflation.

The Vice-Chancellor while appreciating the effort of the donor, Abdul Samad Rabiu of BUA Group for finding the University worthy of the project, stressed that the lecture theatre when completed will be of enormous benefit to students of the University as it will ease the pressure on the other lecture halls in the University and ensure that the learning environment will be convenient.

Earlier in his welcome remark, the Director of Physical Planning, Engr. Ahmed Liman noted that the University in fulfilment of the recommendation for the grant has made available half a hectre of land that will accommodate the lecture hall which have seminar rooms, conveniences and other amenities.

In their remarks, the Contractor and Consultants of the project assured the management of the University of timely and quality completion of the projects.

In a related development, the Vice-Chancellor also handed over a project site to Messrs Edgedrive Hotels Ltd, a private developer who will build a 50 room hotel and conference centre in the University which will sit on one acre of land on a Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) Agreement.

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor while lamenting the state of failed PPP Projects in the University, however noted that the arrangement holds a lot of prospects for both the University and the developer. She stressed that there are success stories and projects as testimonies to the importance of the arrangement between private developers and the University.

In his response, the developer, Barrister Shaba Ibrahim while assuring a timely completion of the project, informed the gathering that the company is investing 2 Billion Naira in the project with Thirty Six months as the completion period.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of project drawings to the contractor and developer by the Vice-Chancellor which signals the official commencement of the construction programme.
