FUGA Goes Digital, as VC Declares End to Analogue era
The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Gashua (FUGA), Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, has declared the end of analogue operations at the university, urging staff to embrace the institution’s ongoing digital transformation.
Geidam made the declaration during a training programme on Distinction Artificial Intelligence (AI) and students registration management records organised for the university’s Management by FlexiSAF Edusoft Limited.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university was committed to deploying technology to improve administrative efficiency, students registration, course generation, results processing, records management and overall service delivery.
“The political will is there; it is now for staff to key in so that the university will quickly transform into a digital university. I want to enjoin all of us to be very critical, analytical and ask questions because this is the transformation that will ease our work,” he said.

He maintains that the university is in constant contact with internet service providers to address connectivity challenges, adding that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) was prepared to support the expansion of internet connectivity, including maintenance and subscription.
He also disclosed that the management of the institution was exploring TETFund intervention to strengthen its internet infrastructure, noting that reliable connectivity was critical to the successful implementation of the digital transformation agenda.
Speaking on the training, FlexiSAF Team Lead, Anas Sa’ad, said the company was at the university to demonstrate its already-developed digital platforms and how they could support FUGA’s operations, in collaboration with the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
He said the platforms were designed to provide a comprehensive digital system covering the university’s operations, from its website and student application to enrolment, registration, academic progression and institutional monitoring.
Sa’ad identified the three platforms as Distinction, Students Record Management System (SRMS) and SAFApply, saying they provide institution-wide monitoring, enrolment and progress insights as well as performance analytics through AI-powered solutions.
Presenting the SRMS, Rufai Abiodun said the system was fully AI-powered, while the Distinction platform, an enterprise and cloud-based application, supports student enrolment, population analysis, registration statistics and school-fee payment, among other functions.
Earlier, the Director of ICT, Dr Hauwa Amshi, said the training was part of a series of programmes organised by the university to equip staff with the skills needed to operate effectively in the emerging digital environment.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Mrs Phidelia Waziri Ugwu, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for prioritising staff development and the digital transformation of the university.
The training formed part of efforts by the administration of Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam to reposition FUGA as a technology-driven institution and improve the efficiency and quality of services provided to students and other stakeholders.
