NSUK VC Reaffirms Commitment to Swift Resolution of ASUU Strike, Urges Students to Remain Calm

The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, has reaffirmed the commitment of the University Management to finding a swift and peaceful resolution to the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Professor Liman gave the assurance on Monday, September 7, 2026, when she received a delegation of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by Comrade Asma’u Idris Omeiza, at the Council Chamber of the University.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Vice-Chancellor and student representatives to engage directly on the impact of the strike and explore constructive ways of facilitating its resolution and the eventual resumption of academic activities.

Speaking during the engagement, Professor Liman commended the NANS leadership for its patience, maturity and commitment to a peaceful resolution of the impasse since the commencement of the strike.

The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged that the prolonged industrial action had affected all stakeholders, particularly students, parents, the University Management, ASUU and government.

She, however, assured the students that NSUK Management had remained actively engaged in consultations and efforts aimed at addressing the situation, stressing that the University would continue to deploy every legitimate and constructive avenue available to it.

Professor Liman emphasised the importance of collaboration among the government, University Management, ASUU and students, noting that a sustainable resolution could only be achieved through dialogue, mutual understanding and collective responsibility.

She therefore appealed to NANS and the entire student body to work closely with the University Management by offering constructive ideas and recommendations that could contribute to resolving the crisis.

“Our students remain at the heart of everything we do. We understand the difficulties this situation has created for them, and Management is committed to doing everything within its capacity to facilitate a resolution and ensure that academic activities resume as soon as possible,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

Professor Liman further urged the students to remain calm, patient and peaceful while dialogue and other appropriate channels of engagement were being pursued.

She stressed that the University Management would continue to protect the interests and welfare of its students while engaging relevant stakeholders towards a positive outcome.

NANS Commends VC’s Open-Door Leadership

Responding on behalf of the delegation, Comrade Asma’u Idris Omeiza expressed appreciation to the University Management for providing NANS with the opportunity to engage directly with the Vice-Chancellor.

She particularly commended Professor Liman’s open-door policy and willingness to engage students and their representatives in a peaceful and constructive manner, describing dialogue as a critical pathway to resolving the current impasse.

Comrade Asma’u called on the government, University Management and ASUU to intensify consultations and reach an agreement capable of bringing the strike to an end and preventing further disruption to students’ academic progress.

She emphasised that the interests and welfare of students must remain central to all efforts towards resolving the dispute.

Security Agencies Back Peaceful Engagement

Also speaking, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Angwan Lambu Police Station, Idris Kennedy, commended the NSUK Management for its continued efforts towards resolving the strike.

He appealed to NANS and students to remain patient and peaceful while consultations among stakeholders continued, urging them to utilise established channels of communication and due process rather than actions that could further complicate the situation.

Similarly, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Keffi, Mr. J. Yusuf, urged students to remain calm and patient, noting that the government and University Management were engaged in dialogue aimed at resolving the situation and facilitating the resumption of academic activities.

He also appreciated the NANS delegation for its understanding and cooperation and encouraged all stakeholders to sustain peaceful and constructive engagement.

The meeting ended on a positive note with the presentation of a medal to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, by the NANS delegation in appreciation of her commitment to dialogue and student engagement.
