An erstwhile Director of the National Youth Service Corps, Mr. Adedayo Awani, has today told corps members put the nation first and avoid joining others to run down the nation.
He made this statement while explaining the objectives of the scheme in a motivational talk to the 2023 batch "B" Stream I corps members currently undergoing Orientation Course in the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja.
He told the corps members to love the nation and be loyal to it instead of doing otherwise.
While advising the corps members, Mr. Awani encouraged them to ensure they excel wherever they are posted to and avoid dwelling on specialization especially after service year but to put their self-reliance training into practical use if they cannot find a paid employment. According to Mr. Awani, "I admonish you to put less emphasis on specialization. As you plan your career think again before you take one more course that will make you more of an expert in your area of specialization because that expertise may have become irrelevant in the present Nigerian environment even before you complete the course."
Myschoolnews reports the Ex-director also advised the corps members not to succumb to external pressures to deny their ideas but to believe they will succeed. He added that believing that their thoughts are not mundane and small but wonderful and important is the foundation of greatness.
