The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mr. Sam Amaramiro Pepple, has stated that the primary goal of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is to build a new generation of wealth creators and employers of labour through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. Mr. Pepple made this assertion on Monday while declaring open the SAED programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.
Addressing the Corps members, Mr. Pepple emphasized the importance of acquiring skills that would make them self-reliant and relevant in today's competitive economy. He noted that by embracing the opportunities provided by the SAED programme, Corps members could safeguard themselves against unemployment by gaining entrepreneurial skills aligned with their passions.
"The only way to create wealth is to insure yourself against unemployment through the acquisition of skills that you are passionate about," Mr. Pepple said. He urged the Corps members to fully commit themselves to learning these skills, as this would prepare them to tackle future challenges and contribute positively to society's economic development.
Mr. Pepple assured the Corps members that by the end of their training, they would be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to create jobs and become employers of labour. He highlighted the importance of continuing with post-camp training to further enhance their capabilities and secure a prosperous future.
In her opening remarks, the Head of the SAED Committee on camp, Pastor Jennifer Funmilola Dawodu, reiterated the NYSC's commitment to building the capacity of Corps members through the SAED programme. She emphasized that the Scheme had made all necessary arrangements to ensure a seamless and stress-free learning process and encouraged the participants to make the most of this opportunity.
The in-camp training, scheduled to last for ten days, will be intensive and feature competent professionals as Trainers and Facilitators for the eleven approved sub-skill sets. The post-camp training is designed to help Corps members refine and perfect the skills they choose, thereby increasing their chances of success in the entrepreneurial world.
The Trainers and Facilitators introduced their respective sub-skill sets to the Corps members, urging them to seize the opportunity and start building their future now. The Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) was also introduced to further emphasize the importance of entrepreneurship in creating a sustainable economic future.
