Reflecting on his return to Nigeria, Adeleke emphasized his desire to transform Nigeria into an attractive destination.

Adedoyin Adeleke, a 35-year-old Nigerian with a Doctorate degree in Energy and Sustainable Development who recently returned from Italy, has expressed his commitment to contributing to Nigeria's development.

This move stands in contrast to recent trends where young Nigerians have been leaving the country in large numbers, a phenomenon known as “Japa.”

Having completed his primary and secondary education in Osogbo, Osun State, Adeleke pursued his tertiary education at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife and the University of Ibadan (UI) for his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, respectively. He furthered his studies with a scholarship from the Italian Government, earning a PhD in Energy for Sustainable Development while working in Italy.

Reflecting on his return to Nigeria, Adeleke emphasized his desire to transform Nigeria into an attractive destination, akin to the allure Europe holds for migrants. Adeleke, who has previously contributed to development efforts across 22 African countries from Europe, believes he can achieve more by being in Nigeria. "If I could do this by the side while I was in Europe studying, I can do more if I return. I often say ‘Africa is too rich to be poor, I choose to act’,” he asserted.

His commitment to green growth is evident through his non-profit organization, the Green Growth Africa Sustainability Network (Green Growth Africa), formerly known as the International Support Network for African Development (ISNAD-Africa). Founded in 2017, the organization supports Master’s and Doctoral research students in African universities through its Mentoring for Research Programme.

Adeleke stressed the importance of sacrifice, determination, and proactive efforts from both citizens and government in realizing Nigeria’s potential for sustainable development.
