OGITECH Holds 4th Annual Health Walk, Marathon to Promote Staff and Student Wellness
The Ogun State Institute of Technology has successfully organised its 4th Annual Staff Health Walk and 10-kilometre Students’ Marathon Race as part of efforts to promote healthy living and wellness within the institution.

The two-day event, held on April 16 and 17, 2026, brought together academic staff, non-academic staff, and students in a large-scale fitness exercise that commenced from the institution’s main gate in Igbesa.
Speaking during the programme, the Rector of the institution, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to the physical wellbeing of members of its academic community.
According to him, the initiative was introduced to encourage healthy lifestyles, physical fitness, and stronger unity among staff and students.
He noted that a healthy workforce and student population remain critical to institutional productivity and academic excellence.
Dr. Oluseye further disclosed that medical screening for staff formed part of this year’s programme, stressing the importance of routine medical examinations for early detection and prevention of health complications.

The Director of Sports, Architect Olalekan Oginni, highlighted the importance of regular physical exercise in reducing stress and improving productivity, while commending the institution’s management for sustaining staff- and student-focused welfare initiatives.
Also speaking, the Medical Director of the institution, Dr. Olumide Tomiwa Ogunjobi, stressed that routine health checks remain essential for early diagnosis and prevention of serious illnesses.
The event featured full participation from staff members and students, with participants completing the designated route from the institution’s gate to a major roundabout within the host community before returning to the campus.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps Special Marshal Unit attached to the institution also participated in the exercise by coordinating traffic and ensuring the safety of participants throughout the event.
The FRSC team was led by Engr. Adelakun.
Participants commended the Directorate of Sports and the institution’s management for sustaining the annual initiative, describing it as a valuable platform for promoting wellness, unity, and improved staff morale.

The annual health walk and marathon race has continued to serve as one of OGITECH’s major welfare programmes aimed at strengthening health consciousness and community engagement within the institution.
