Old Students Renovate Classrooms at St. Anthony Secondary School, Ilorin

Members of the 1984 set of the St. Anthony Secondary School Ilorin Old Students Association (SASSIOSA) renovated two blocks of classrooms and office spaces to mark their 40th anniversary. The project, costing over N6.1 million, was funded by contributions from the alumni and included repairs to flooring, ceilings, and windows.

Members of the 1984 set of the St. Anthony Secondary School Ilorin Old Students Association (SASSIOSA), Kwara State, have given back to their alma mater by renovating two blocks of classrooms and office spaces. The newly renovated structures, which house both Junior and Senior classes, were officially handed over during a ceremony to mark the 40th anniversary of the association.

The President of the 1984 set and Headgirl, Chief (Mrs.) Victoria Kehinde Afolayan (nee Oyeyipo), revealed that the project, which cost over N6.1 million, was funded by contributions from members of the old students’ association. Afolayan explained that the renovation included terrazzo flooring, plastering of walls, ceiling repairs, and the replacement of doors and windows with durable metal fittings.

"We aimed to restore these classrooms, particularly the Junior class block, which was in terrible condition. We are grateful to our members, who come from various professions like medicine, education, civil service, and traditional leadership, for their generosity," Afolayan stated.

The event also featured the presentation of awards to notable figures. The Catholic Church, which established the school, was recognized for its role in nurturing the students. Awards for leadership excellence were also presented to the pioneer Headboy and Headgirl of the school.

The inauguration ceremony was led by the Catholic Bishop of Ilorin Diocese, Most Reverend Anselm Pendo Lawani, who was represented by Reverend Father Titus Opadokun. In his message, Reverend Father Opadokun prayed for continued blessings upon the old students for their efforts to support the institution.
