Workers of Ondo State-owned universities and tertiary institutions have declared their intention to embark on an industrial strike starting January 1, 2024. The decision follows an alleged non-payment of salaries and allowances by the state government.

The Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Mr. Dayo Temola, conveyed this in a statement titled ‘Why we may not resume work in January.’ The statement outlined that the decision was made during a meeting of the Joint Negotiating Council (JAC) of tertiary institutions in the state held at the University of Medical Science in Ondo last week.

The statement expressed dissatisfaction with the alleged delay in releasing subvention to institutions in Ondo State by the present government. As a result, the JAC of state tertiary institutions in Ondo State cannot assure industrial harmony starting from January 1, 2024.
