Dr. Nsikak Akpan, a lecturer at Foreign Links College of Health Technology in Moro, Osun State, has reached the 100-hour mark in his 150-hour marathon lecture aimed at setting a new world record for the longest lecture.

The marathon lecture began on September 20, 2024, after Dr. Akpan received approval from Guinness World Records to attempt the feat, with his application referenced as 240427100506lml. Currently, the record for the longest marathon lecture stands at 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds, held by Indian Professor Arvin Mishra since 2014.
Dr. Akpan's lecture series, themed “Relationships Between Man’s Environment and Health,” is being conducted on the college campus, with students attending to gain insights on the critical interplay between environmental factors and health outcomes. During a recent session, Dr. Akpan focused on mental health, emphasizing that various elements, particularly environmental and spiritual well-being, significantly impact a person's mental state.
“The mental health of a man is a product of different things, most especially his environmental and spiritual well-being,” Dr. Akpan explained. He further noted that certain health conditions and seasonal changes could affect mental health, highlighting the direct correlation between the work environment and overall health.
Each lecture session spans four hours, followed by a 20-minute break before Dr. Akpan resumes. As he continues this monumental endeavor, all eyes are on him as he aims to break the existing world record.
