Osun NSCDC Arrests 24-Year-Old Bricklayer for Vandalizing Government School

The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested Akeem Sulaiman, a 24-year-old bricklayer from No. 23 Aladorun Compound, Iwo, Osun State, on charges of vandalizing AUD Primary School in Iwo. The arrest occurred on September 7, 2024, at approximately 11:15 a.m., as Sulaiman was transporting stolen items to metal scrap buyers.

NSCDC personnel recovered several items from Sulaiman, including 13 new stainless washing hand basins, a pumping machine monitoring box, communication cables, three stainless trays, and four hand shovels. Initial investigations reveal that Sulaiman, previously employed as a labourer during the school's construction, has been involved in stealing from various construction sites for the past six years, selling the stolen items to metal scrap dealers.

Michael Adaralewa, the Commandant of NSCDC Osun State Command, emphasized that such actions are in violation of Section 451 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 34, Law of Osun State, Nigeria, which criminalizes the willful destruction or damage of property. He assured that Sulaiman would face the full extent of the law to deter others from similar acts of vandalism.

Commandant Adaralewa also issued a stern warning to metal scrap buyers in the state, urging them to refrain from purchasing stolen goods. Those found engaging in such activities will be prosecuted under the law.
