OWSD FUOYE Celebrates International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2026
The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Branch, marked the 2026 International Day of Women and Girls in Science with an impactful outreach to St. Augustine Comprehensive High School, Oye-Ekiti.
Centered on the global theme, “From Vision to Impact: Redefining STEM by Closing the Gender Gap,” the event targeted young female students to dismantle stereotypes and encourage the pursuit of careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The FUOYE OWSD members engaged the students in mentorship sessions, highlighting the critical need for gender parity in scientific research and innovation. By sharing personal success stories and career pathways, the delegation aimed to transform the "vision" of being a scientist into a tangible "impact" for the girls.
The initiative aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5, focusing on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls through education and technical skills.
This celebration reinforces FUOYE’s dedication to community service and the promotion of scientific literacy within its host community. The branch noted that by reaching out to secondary schools, they are actively "shaping the next generation of women in science" to ensure that every voice is represented in future technological advancements.
