Oyedepo Urges Federal Government to Develop Education Modules to Address Nigeria's Challenges

Bishop David Oyedepo, Chancellor of Covenant University, has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to develop educational modules aimed at addressing the country's pressing challenges. In an interview, he highlighted the need to transform universities into solutions centers that provide practical responses to issues like unemployment and insecurity.

Bishop David Oyedepo, Chancellor of Covenant University in Ota, Ogun State, has called on the Federal Government to focus on developing education modules that tackle the pressing challenges facing Nigeria. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Oyedepo emphasized the urgent need to reconstruct the educational system to transform universities into solutions centers for national issues.

He questioned the efficacy of formal education and advanced degrees that do not address the critical challenges plaguing the country. “What is the value of formal education and chains of degrees that proffer no solutions to numerous challenges confronting the country?” Oyedepo stated. He urged universities to operate like engineering workshops, where young people can be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for productive, value-adding lives.

Oyedepo stressed the importance of repositioning universities to offer intellectual solutions relevant to government, commerce, and industry. He proposed the establishment of “solutions centres” that would attract public and industrial interest, leveraging the intellectual resources within educational institutions to combat issues such as unemployment and insecurity.
