MAAUN, Russian Varsity to Partner on Geosciences Research
Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) is set to collaborate with Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU), Russia, to enhance Geosciences research and education.

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) is set to establish an academic collaboration with Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU), Russia, to advance research and education in Geosciences (Earth Science).
The virtual meeting, held on Thursday, brought together officials from both universities to discuss viable areas of partnership aimed at fostering academic and research development.
Speaking during the session, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, highlighted the university’s strong academic foundation, comprising seven schools with 22 academic programs and a student population exceeding 5,000. He assured that MAAUN would provide the necessary support to ensure the success of the proposed collaboration.
Prof. Stepan S. Bykov, Vice Rector for International Affairs at INRTU, emphasized the institution’s track record in academic excellence and global partnerships. He expressed optimism that the collaboration would pave the way for further international partnerships in the future.
Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, Vice President of Administration at MAAUN, described the initiative as an opportunity to explore new academic and research frontiers. He noted that MAAUN operates campuses in Maradi (Niger Republic), Kano, Kaduna, and Abuja.
Dr. Murtala Haruna, Director of General Studies at MAAUN, underscored the significance of the proposed research center, noting that it would benefit not only MAAUN but also other Nigerian universities. Similarly, Prof. Mohammed Abubakar Mohammed, a Research Engineer at the Siberian School of Geosciences, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, citing MAAUN’s strategic location in northern Nigeria, which is rich in mineral resources. He also called for the establishment of a research institute as part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Melenteva Anna, Head of the International Affairs Department at INRTU, commended MAAUN for its commitment to actualizing the MoU. In his vote of thanks, Engr. Bashir Garba, Head of the International Office at MAAUN Kano, assured that all aspects of the partnership discussions would receive the necessary attention.
Other MAAUN representatives at the meeting included Malam Tukur Muntari, Head of Corporate Communications and Protocol Unit; Miss Janvi, Assistant Head of Career Guidance, Training, and Placement; and Hayatuddeen M. Abdallah, Public Relations Officer.
