Oyo State Implements Health Insurance Scheme for Tertiary Students
Dr. Akande highlighted that OYSHIA covers 55 percent of the premium cost, providing benefits such as consultations, investigations, drugs, basic surgical interventions, and ear, nose, and throat (ENT) treatments
The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) has announced the extension of the state's National Health Insurance Scheme to students in tertiary institutions. Dr. Olusola Akande, the Executive Secretary of OYSHIA, made this disclosure during a media dialogue event organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with OYSHIA.
According to Dr. Akande, the health insurance scheme offers an affordable premium of as low as N13,500 per annum per person, with the option for monthly payments for those in the informal sector. He emphasized that enrolling in the scheme would enable students to access medical care conveniently within their institutions, thereby reducing out-of-pocket expenses.
