PANS, UNN Hold Conference to Mark International Day Against Drug Abuse

The Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students, University of Nigeria, Nsukka chapter recently held a conference to mark the international day against drug abuse.
Myschoolnews reports the event held on the 26th of June,2023 was themed "People first: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention".
The event put together by the public health team of the association had stigma and addiction as it's major focus.
At the event, the speakers identified biological, environmental , physiological and social factors as the major causes if addiction amongst drug users whilst they also encouraged participants not to stigmatize drug users.
The common forms of stigmatization were identified as self stigma, social stigma and structural stigma.
