Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) Press has announced the launch of the inaugural PAU Press Essay Contest (PEC) 2024, inviting Nigerian youth to delve into the role of digital platforms in shaping contemporary social movements. The contest, themed "Digital Youth & Social Movements," aims to foster engagement with pressing social issues and promote literary excellence among young Nigerians.

Inspired by Dr. Nwachukwu Egbunike’s book Digital Youth and Social Movements, the contest seeks essays that explore how the Internet has facilitated youth-led movements such as #EndSARS (2020) and #Obidient (2023).

Prizes:

  • 1st Prize: N50,000
  • 2nd Prize: N30,000
  • 3rd Prize: N20,000

In addition, the top 30 entrants will each receive a complimentary copy of Digital Youth & Social Movements and certificates of excellence.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Open to Nigerian youth aged 16 to 30.
  • Essays must be original and not exceed 250 words.
  • Entries should be in English, with any native terms translated into English as footnotes.
  • Include name, age, location, and contact details at the top of the essay.
  • PAU Press reserves the right to use entries as deemed appropriate.

Submissions should be emailed to submissionstopaupress@pau.edu.ng with "PEC 2024" as the subject line. The deadline for entries is September 10, 2024.

This contest represents a significant opportunity for young Nigerians to contribute to discussions on digital activism and social change, while showcasing their writing talents.
