PEARLs Quiz competition: Excitement as schools cart away over N20m

In the 12th edition of the Seplat PEARLs Quiz competition, Don Bosco Science Academy in Ukhun, Edo, a rural community in the university town of Ekpoma, emerged as the first-place winner. They were awarded N10 million, in addition to N100,000 for each participating student.

The Southend Event Centre in Asaba, Delta, witnessed an atmosphere of joy and celebration as winners of the Seplat PEARLs Quiz competition, representing secondary schools in Edo and Delta states, were awarded significant prizes totaling over N20 million.

In the 12th edition of the Seplat PEARLs Quiz competition, Don Bosco Science Academy in Ukhun, Edo, a rural community in the university town of Ekpoma, emerged as the first-place winner. They were awarded N10 million, in addition to N100,000 for each participating student.

Our Saviour College in Sapele, Delta, secured the second position and received N5 million, with each participating student earning N75,000.

Hollywood International Secondary School in Asaba clinched the third position, and Divine Providence Education Centre in Benin received a consolation prize. Hollywood International Secondary School was awarded N3 million, and each participating student received N50,000. Divine Providence Education Centre received N10,000 per participating student.

This year's competition featured a unique format, beginning with an online stage that saw 510 schools participating. As the competition progressed, only 139 schools qualified for the physical show.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Governor Shriff Oborevwori of Delta state, who commended Seplat Energy for the initiative. He expressed his hope that other oil companies would follow the company's example and pledged more state students' participation in the 2024 edition.

Managing Director of Seplat, West, Mr. Ayodele Olatunde, highlighted the competition's value in fostering values, principles, competition, teamwork, focus, and resilience. He commended the participants for their dedication and hard work.

Director of External Affairs and Sustainability at Seplat, Chioma Afe, discussed the program's impact over the years, including scholarships, projects, laptops, tablets, and other prizes provided to schools and students. She emphasized the program's role in nurturing students' confidence and encouraging innovative techniques.

Delta state commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, and her counterpart in Edo state, Dr. Joan Oviawe, commended Seplat Energy for its contribution to the education sector and organizing the competition.

PEARLs Quiz competition, which stands for Promoting Exceptional And Respectable Leaders, is Seplat Energy's educational CSR program aimed at rewarding academic excellence in Delta and Edo states. The 12th edition of the competition marked another successful year of promoting academic achievement and development among secondary school students.
