President Tinubu Celebrates Former UNILORIN VC Prof. Oloyede on His 70th Birthday
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pays tribute to Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, lauding his impact on the educational sector and national development on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, honored Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and current Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on his 70th birthday. In a heartfelt statement released a day earlier, the President expressed pride in Prof. Oloyede's achievements as an esteemed administrator, educator, and author.
President Tinubu highlighted Prof. Oloyede's significant contributions to national development through academia and public administration. He emphasized that Oloyede’s tenure at the University of Ilorin from 2007 to 2012 was marked by landmark innovations that propelled the institution to new heights. The President praised Oloyede for his dedication to imparting knowledge and values to thousands of students, describing him as a pivotal figure in shaping the future of many.
“The bedrock of development lies in education,” President Tinubu stated, emphasizing the need for more scholars like Prof. Oloyede in developing nations such as Nigeria. He commended Oloyede’s transformative leadership at JAMB, which introduced a series of reforms and technological advancements that improved transparency and credibility in the admission process.
The President also recognized Prof. Oloyede’s commitment to financial integrity and accountability in public service, noting that he successfully transformed JAMB from a non-revenue-generating agency into a significant contributor to the national treasury through efficient financial management.
President Tinubu joined the academic community, students, JAMB staff, and well-wishers in celebrating Prof. Oloyede, who has significantly propagated the Islamic faith through his actions. Born on October 10, 1954, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Oloyede completed his early education in Lagos before attending the University of Ilorin in 1978, where he graduated with a First Class degree in Arabic in 1981. He joined the University as a Graduate Assistant and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence in 1995. His tenure as Vice Chancellor marked a period of phenomenal development for the institution.
