On Thursday, 25th of August, 2024, Prof Lawal Suleiman Bilbis chaired the 48th inaugural lecture of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), being his last one as the Vice Chancellor of the university.

The insightful lecture which lasted from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the university's auditorium was titled: LEADERSHIP: What has it got to do with it, and was presented by Prof. Dejo A. Abdulrahman.

Inaugural lecture is an avenue where Professors defend their professorships and present on what they have been professing. Prof Dejo’s lecture served as the 28th inaugural lecture under the outgoing VC.

Prof Bilbis, whose tenure would fold up in a few days, remarked the presenter, Prof Dejo, as a perfectionist who serves as a source of inspiration to many in the academia.

The first class Professor of Sociology of Organization demystified the concept of leadership which he related to national and cultural scopes. While narrating his journey to Sokoto from scratch, he pinpointed the reasons for choosing the lecture’s title.

Also, Prof Dejo underscored the significance of leadership and how it can be a challenging problem in the presence of an iota of crisis. He gave relatable instances of why leadership matters from institutional, national and global cases.

Biography of Prof Dejo. A Abdulrahman

Prof. Dejo hails from Ojomu compound, Offa Kwara State. He had his primary education at St. Barnabas Anglican School and St. Marks Primary School in Ilorin and Offa, respectively before he proceeded to St. Peter College, Kaduna for his secondary education.

He had his post-secondary education at Teachers Training College, Kaduna; and Abdullahi Bayero College, Kano. He studied at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he badged Bsc in Sociology (First-class honor), and Chicago State University for his Master and PhD.

Moreso, he joined the service of University of Sokoto (now Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto) in 1977 as a Graduate-assistant and rose through ranks to become Prof. of Sociology of Organization in 2001. Prof Dejo was the pioneer Dean of Faculty Social and Management Sciences, UDUS and Federal University Gusau. He serves as editor of numerous journals, and consultant for several organizations.

Prof. Dejo was the pioneer chairman of the Inaugural Committee of the university. He eulogized Prof Bilbis for sustaining the tradition of cositent conduct of inaugural lectures and his exceptional leadership for the university community.
