NYSC Rivers State has recorded another landmark achievement following the successful completion and handing over of a 6-room self-contained Corpers' Lodge to the Scheme by the Executive Chairman of Gokana Local council, Hon. Deko Confidence.

in a ceremony held at Barako community to officially hand over the Lodge to the NYSC Scheme, State Coordinator NYSC Rivers State, Hon. Deko explained that the gesture is to appreciate the efforts of the Corps Members in enhancing the quality, capacity, efficiency and effectiveness of teaching and learning amongst students in the Council.

 

He stated that he is always delighted to see Corps Members improving the lives of citizens of the Council through their initiation and execution of individual and group Community Development Service projects.

 Hon. Deko conclusively noted he hopes that the Lodge will serve as a morale booster for the Corps Members and help ameliorate the challenges they face with getting accomodation, assuring them that his administration is poised to do more for them within available resources.

 

Myschoolnews reports that while receiving the keys to the lodge from the Executive Chairman, the Coordinator NYSC Rivers State, Mr. George Mfongang represented by the Assistant Director, Accounts, Mr. Barth Uzowuru expressed deep appreciation to Hon. Deko, noting that when Corps Members are provided with accomodation, 50 percent of their needs in a Service Year is met.

Speaking further, Mr. Mfongang said that he is not anyway surprised by the Chairman's commitment to building the Lodge as he has always shown interest and support to all NYSC programmes and activities.

 

He said it is in the light of the above that the Chairman was recognized and awarded Best NYSC Friendly Chairman at the NYSC @ 50 anniversary award ceremony.

 

The Coordinator used the opportunity to enjoin the Corps Members who are the beneficiaries of the project to manage the Lodge and the facilities provided in it with caution in order to ensure its durability and longevity.
