Six Graduands Achieve Perfect CGPA of 7.0 at University of Ibadan 76th Convocation Ceremony

Six graduands from the University of Ibadan (UI) achieved a perfect CGPA of 7.0 and were awarded Master’s degree certificates during the university’s 76th Convocation Ceremony on 15th November 2024.

In a remarkable display of academic excellence, six graduands from the University of Ibadan (UI) were honored with Master’s degree certificates after achieving the perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 7.0. This achievement was celebrated at the university's 76th Convocation Ceremony, held on Friday, 15th November, 2024.

These exceptional students were part of the 2,450 graduands who received their Master’s degree certificates on the third day of the event, which coincided with the university’s 76th Founders' Day. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the institution, recognizing the academic achievements of students from diverse disciplines.

One of the distinguished graduates, Abiodun Oyeleye, who completed her Master’s degree in Wood Production from the Faculty of Technology, expressed deep gratitude for her success. Oyeleye attributed her achievement to the support of her family, tutors, and divine assistance. “I didn’t do it alone; God helped me. I had the support of my wonderful lecturers who instilled knowledge in me, and I cannot forget my parents, especially my late father and mother, and my siblings,” she said.

Offering advice to others aspiring to reach similar academic heights, Oyeleye encouraged them to stay focused and work diligently. “When you put your heart to something, with the help of God and the right resources, you can achieve anything,” she added.

The Vice Chancellor of UI, Professor Kayode Adebowale, commended the university’s continued success in producing highly skilled professionals through its postgraduate programs. “Our postgraduate college has consistently maintained excellence in education and research, producing the highest number of postgraduate candidates in West Africa,” he said during his speech.

Prof. Adebowale highlighted the university’s significant contribution to higher education, emphasizing its role in creating quality manpower essential for national development. The VC further reiterated UI’s commitment to transforming into a leading research and postgraduate institution, fostering innovation and excellence.

As part of their recognition, the six graduands with perfect CGPA scores were awarded scholarships to pursue doctoral studies, encouraging them to continue contributing to national development.

In his closing remarks, Professor Adebowale urged the graduates to apply their knowledge creatively and courageously to address the challenges facing society and the economy. “With the knowledge and skills you have gained, I urge you to be innovative and proactive in applying them to the challenges ahead,” he said.

The ceremony concluded with a call for the graduates to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development and to use their education to drive positive change in the country.
