Six outstanding 200-level students of the University of Ibadan have received the first tranche of the Adebisi Akande Foundation Scholarship, an award established by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, His Excellency Chief Adebisi Akande, CFR.

The Registrar, Mr. Ganiyu O. Saliu, fspsp, FCIML, FNIM, MANUPA, MAUA, presented the letters of award to the beneficiaries on behalf of the donor. He explained that Chief Akande had directed that all allowances due to him as Pro-Chancellor be deposited in a dedicated account to fund scholarships for the best undergraduates in Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
According to Mr. Saliu, the six recipients were selected based on their exceptional academic performance in the last academic session. He added that the scholarship would be renewed annually for each student until the completion of their programmes, provided they maintain top academic standing in their respective departments.
He further assured the beneficiaries that they would continue to receive the awards even if Chief Akande ceases to hold office as Pro-Chancellor, emphasizing the donor’s long-term commitment to rewarding excellence.

Mr. Saliu also disclosed that a formal recognition ceremony would be held later by the Adebisi Akande Foundation to honour the recipients. He encouraged the students to remain diligent, reminding them that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”
The students confirmed receiving the cash awards in their accounts and expressed appreciation to the donor for his generosity and encouragement.
