Student Energy Launches Power Conservation Campaign at FUNAAB
The Student Energy chapter at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has launched a power conservation campaign to reduce electricity wastage and promote energy efficiency on campus.

A student-led initiative aimed at promoting energy conservation has been launched at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) under the banner of STUDENT ENERGY, a global non-profit organization. The FUNAAB chapter of the organization has outlined a strategic mission to reduce electricity wastage across lecture halls, hostels, and offices while creating awareness about the importance of energy efficiency.
Speaking on the initiative, the Chapter’s President, Mr. Daniel Adeyemi, a 400-level student from the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology (EMT), College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM), emphasized the need for both staff and students to adopt energy-saving habits. He encouraged the university community to turn off bulbs, fans, air conditioners, and other electrical appliances when not in use, particularly in academic and administrative spaces.
According to Mr. Adeyemi, the campaign aligns with FUNAAB’s sustainability efforts and reinforces its commitment to environmental responsibility. He noted that the initiative seeks to foster a culture of energy consciousness, leading to long-term behavioral changes among students and staff. Additionally, he highlighted that reducing unnecessary power consumption would significantly lower electricity costs for the university.
The campaign is expected to involve workshops, awareness programs, and practical demonstrations on energy conservation, ensuring that students and staff are well-informed about the impact of their energy usage. With this initiative, the Student Energy FUNAAB chapter aims to set a precedent for responsible energy consumption within the university and beyond.
