UDUS: Kebbi Stuns Defending Champion, Claims Victory in Interstate Competition Final
On Sunday, December 03, 2023, the final match of the inter-state football competition for the 2022/2023 academic session of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto was played in the university stadium, main campus.
The match which started at about 4:45 pm was between the team of Kebbi State Students Association (KESSA) and the defending champion, Sokoto State Students Association (SOSSA).

Team SOSSA is known for its dominance and has been the defending champion for years, reaching the final stage again gives them the confidence to continue their victory streaks, but the story changes as team KESSA stunned them in the final.
Both teams displayed a sense of sportsmanship, professionalism, and perseverance during the game. The match attracted a massive turnout of spectators cheering their teams of choice.
Both teams deployed commendable efforts to get the ball into the opponent's net but no goal was recorded as the first half ended in a deadlock.

Resuming the second half with renewed spirit, utmost energy, and confidence. Putting all their fists into the ball trying to put smiles on the faces of their supporters.
However, the KESSA team did not waste much of their time in the second half to surprisingly shoot from an unexpected spot to the net and the goalkeeper could not decide correctly where the ball found its way to the SOSSA’s net. “Goaaaaaaal!!!!!” The whole stadium screamed into a uniform sound the supporters from the KESSA team dispersed onto the field, celebrating the wonderful goal scored by their team. Making the score 1:0, and giving the KESSA team the lead in the 72nd minute of the match.
The SOSSA team tried so much to level up but all their effort yielded no result as the KESSA team ensured no goal was thrown into their net, They put more effort and added pressure on their opponent in the stoppage time but all their effort proved abortive as the match ended in a victory for kebbi.
Usman Aminu, the Sports Director and Coach of KESSA football team expressed his pleasure over the victory, he said, " I have to first of all thank my players for having the confidence that we can make it and we have made it."

"It is not easy and I'm happy to say that we have broken a record of about six years. I thank all the spectators who come out to show their support to our team and the Kebbi State Students in particular who have always been there to cheer up the team.
"My heartfelt appreciation goes to the school management and the organizers of the competition for all their effort and support in making this competition a good one," he concluded.
